Ingenious Media: Brooklyn opens in cinemas
Ingenious is delighted to have been involved in the production of Brooklyn, Nick Hornby’s stirring adaptation of the 2009 award-winning novel by Colm Tóibín.
Set in fifties Ireland and New York, Brooklyn tells the story of young Eilis Lacey (Saoirse Ronan), an Irish girl who, lured by the promise of the USA, leaves behind her family in Ireland to start a new life in New York. While education and employment prospects are much better, homesick Eilis is torn between her new life and the past, and the lives that exist within them.
Brooklyn has received rave reviews in the press, described by Forbes as ‘a richly literary, openly emotional, and absolutely devastating period piece drama’ and by the Financial Times as ‘old-fashioned perfection’. Critics have awarded particular praise to Fiona Weir who cast the production: referred to by the Telegraph as the ‘captain of her trade’, Weir’s casting offers an ‘impeccable ensemble’, in particular the tingling chemistry portrayed between Eilis and Tony (Emory Cohen), her Italian-American sweetheart. These roles are supported by Domhnall Gleeson as Irish love interest, Jim, as well as the memorable cameos of Jim Broadbent as Catholic priest Father Flood, and Julie Walters as Eilis’ landlady, Mrs Kehoe.
Backed by our Shelley Media EIS, Brooklyn opens across the UK on 6 November 2015.
