IEP Care Service

Designed to deliver well-being benefits in addition to the financial outcome

At Ingenious, we understand that financial wellbeing in later life is deeply connected to personal wellbeing. That’s why our Ingenious Estate Planning (IEP) solution includes complimentary access to the IEP Care Service – a specialist offering designed to help clients and their families make confident, informed decisions about long-term care.

As life expectancy increases, many individuals and families face complex decisions around care for the first time. These decisions often come under emotional pressure, with little understanding of the options available or how to fund them.

Why Help with Care Planning Matters

The UK’s health and care system can be difficult to navigate. Families are often required to become experts overnight, comparing providers, understanding contracts, and managing care budgets without any previous experience.

According to research funded by the National Institute for Health and Social Care Research (NIHR), many people arranging care privately receive little guidance, despite needing to manage a wide range of decisions. Getting it wrong can lead to unmet care needs and unexpected costs.

People need skills in searching for information, deciding on the level of care they need, weighing up alternatives, managing a budget, and dealing with employment or care home contracts.

The Changing Landscape of Care

Who Needs Care?

  • In 2021, 278,946 people aged 65+ were living in care homes in England and Wales.
  • This represents 2.5% of the over-65 population, down from 3.2% in 2011.
(The decline may reflect a trend toward staying at home longer or delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.)

The Rising Cost of Care

Care costs are increasing rapidly, particularly for private clients:

  • Local authorities paid average increases of:
    • +9.6% for home care
    • +10.1% for residential care (65+)
    • +9.6% for nursing care (65+)

    • Local authority: £1,146
    • Private client: £1,409
    • Difference: £263 more
  • Average residential care fee:

Why Planning Ahead Matters

Planning in advance allows individuals and families to:

  • Make more strategic financial decisions
  • Maintain choice and control over care arrangements
  • Reduce stress and pressure during a crisis
  • Ensure the wellbeing of their loved ones is properly supported

With access to the IEP Care Service, clients are not alone in making these important decisions.
