For over 20 years Ingenious has undertaken a wide range of equity investments encompassing:

Venture capital investments in early stage growth companies

Providing equity finance to create and operate single assets or portfolios of assets

Our equity strategies span our four core sectors.

MEDIA – EQUITY

Ingenious Media has managed a wide range of equity structures for both retail and institutional investors, having deployed over £9 billion in the sector since 1998.

Venture capital investments have been made into successful media companies such as 19 Entertainment, the creators of American Idol, Whizz Kid Productions and the live event festivals Boardmasters and Creamfields. Our founder, Patrick McKenna, was previously Chairman and CEO of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group. Together with director Duncan Reid, he was instrumental in creating global value from hits such as Phantom of the Opera, Cats and many other shows.

Although our equity strategies have spanned numerous sectors within Media,
they are currently focused on the production and global distribution of film and
television content.

Examples of our experience:

REAL ESTATE – EQUITY

Co-investment into property developments both pre and post planning permission through to construction, optimisation and exit.

The Ingenious Real Estate team is experienced in providing equity to development opportunities as a co-investment, alongside the developer of the project, aligning interests between the two parties. Developments may be awaiting planning permission, or already have it in place.

Our extensive sector expertise enables us to identify and partner with experienced developers on projects with high buyer demand and liquidity levels.

We primarily consider build to sell and build to rent opportunities in both the residential, mixed use and industrial sectors.

Examples of our experience:

London Road, Staines

Conversion of vacant office into 53 flats, all eligible for Help to Buy. Good transport links and close to the town centre.

Planning permission approved

Bell Green, Sydenham

Bell Green, Sydenham Purchase of a parade of 4 shops and 4 flats in Bell Green. Planning consent was granted for a 23 unit residential-led project and the site was sold to PA Housing (a Housing Association) to develop the plan.

INFRASTRUCTURE – EQUITY

Venture capital investments into high growth companies which are leading the transition to a more sustainable future in the areas of grid optimisation, low carbon transportation, energy efficiency, reduction of food waste, and many more, with a focus on how technology can support the transition to a low carbon future.

EDUCATION – EQUITY

Venture capital investment in the EdTech sector, for instance the award-winning Mindful Education, to provide flexible and engaging learning for students of professional courses, who achieve better results, lower dropout rates and higher satisfaction scores when compared to students who only attend in-class lectures or who only attend online courses.

Ingenious has a long history of investing in early-growth stage companies. In the Education sector, our strategy focuses on EdTech and innovative strategies that greatly enhance outcomes for students and teachers alike, through the provision of flexible, media-rich content. We look to work with visionary management teams that can benefit from our experience across education, business management and digital disruption.

A new standard in the delivery of blended learning.

Multi-award winning Mindful Education specialises in creating media-rich professional courses and apprenticeships. Their courses allow students to match how, when and where they want to study to deliver a best-in-class student experience.

When Mindful Education was a year old, Ingenious made an equity investment to support its early growth and Neil Forster, Ingenious’ CEO, became a board member working closely with the senior management team at Mindful.

Since then, Mindful has gone from strength to strength. In 2020, student numbers soared as their courses were rolled out nationally to enable students to sustain their studies during the pandemic and more recently, Mindful was awarded ‘EdTech Company of the Year’ at the 2021 Global Business Tech Awards. Now employing over 50 people, Mindful Education continues to harness the macro opportunity for demand in flexible, blended learning.
